These were from my studio classes, I photographed these objects on a plexiglass shooting table with two gelled strobes, one underneath the table, and one behind the table shooting through the white plexi. For some images I just used the modeling light, others I used the strobes and got more intense colors. I often choose two contrasting colors to gel lights with. I found that metallic and glass objects worked the best for this work.
I love these awesome gourds! I live around the corner from a pumpkin patch, and they had these fantastic things, 5 for $3. Naturally I thought they would make for a great photo project, so I picked up a couple of interesting looking ones, some even look like birds! I have also been playing around with photoshop actions with these as well, what do you all think?
I’m sure some people are familiar with Tybee Island as the place where Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth came and filmed The Last Song a few years ago, but there is definitely a lot more to the island than what was shown in the film. I went to the Tybee Lighthouse, which is one of a few 18th century lighthouses still in operation today. It was pretty early when I went there, around 8, and the light was fantastic on the beach and on the lighthouse. Afterwards I found my way to the beach, which was beautiful. There were these wooden bench swings every few feet down the beach, which would make for a great place for an engagement shoot or something similar I’m sure! I had heard there was great breakfast spot on Tybee called The Breakfast Club, however I did not get the chance to eat there this time. I’d love to go back again during beach season. I got the feeling it was much more of a family oriented beach town, as opposed to Ocean City which is way more of a party beach town. Each has their own charm.
While in Savannah I was able to catch the last few days of a weeklong Jazz Festival. The photos below are of the band Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials. They were fantastic! Everyone was dancing and having a blast! While I’m thinking of it, the 2012 Richmond Folk Fest is this weekend, October 12-14th! Super excited to see some good performances.
Last weekend I went to Savannah, GA to check out SCAD’s graduate photography program. My family decided to make a trip of it and so we spent four days there. We got to see quite a bit, and were even lucky to have timed it just right to get to see the Savannah Jazz Festival. SCAD looks awesome, and I’m considering applying for the program, it had a lot of great things to it that would really be helpful for getting me where I want to be in terms of career. I can also see myself doing some good work there. Here are some images from the first night I was there. The hotel we stayed at had a rooftop pool, which had great views of the city and the river.
I always love to photograph after dark, I just love how things change when the sun goes down. There are a lot more variations of light at night which really adds to the photographs that are taken after dark. I especially like photographing the stars, but that is best on nights with a new moon. On nights like tonight, when the moon is very bright, it can make an image look like it was taken in the day. The only way you could see the difference is if you see street lights on or house lights. You could also check the date stamp on the file if you were really curious.
